Let the ADVENTURE begin

My first blog post ever. Hopefully many more to come so that each of us can live our best adventure.

I’m Glenn. My own adventure took me to a college I didn’t plan to attend. Fortunately, I found everything I needed to prepare me for a career as a youth pastor, barista, counselor, higher education professional, coach, and educational consultant. What college could do all that you ask? Doesn’t matter the name of the school. The important thing was my college was a best fit for me and my eclectic career that was to come.

Why blog about life after high school?

  • Because the pressure to find the “perfect” school is weighing on a lot of students.
  • Because for many students college is not their best option; so what is?
  • Because parents care about their kids future, but can also be anxious of what it all might cost them.
  • Because every transition in life is an opportunity to have an amazing adventure!

I hope that I’m able to share helpful information for parents, high school students, and college students to make the most of this exciting time of life where many of the decisions that will lay a foundation for the rest of your life will be made.

In future posts we will explore:

  • Financial aid and financial planning for parents and students.
  • Unveiling some of the mystery behind college admissions.
  • How summers can be as important as what happens during the school year.
  • Mental, physical, and spiritual health.
  • Big surprises that await you in college.
  • Options to college that are just as adventurous (or more so).
  • And hopefully answering some of your questions as we go.

How about a little more about me. I’ve been married for 25 years (eventually you may see a post about that adventure) and have two handsome young boys (another adventure story for another day). I live in Ashland, Ohio but have traveled most of the continental US and a couple dozen other countries. My loves include reading, coffee, great movies, and cheering for teams who haven’t won much until recently (Cleveland Browns) and teams who win a lot (Ohio State).

My own adventure has moved me across the country to Phoenix, AZ and back home again. It had me living in four different houses in the first year of marriage. It took me down a career path I never imagined for myself. It has been full of disappointments, surprises, friendships, celebrations, failures, forgiveness (both given and received), and more fun than one person should have.

My newest adventure is Ennefit which dreams of taking the fear and mystery out of the transitions from high school and replace it with vision and fun for the entire family. Thanks for joining me on this next adventure.

10 Things You May (or may not) Want To Know About Me

So as my introduction to you here are some simple facts about my not so simple life.

  1. I became a dad for the first time at the age of 48.
  2. In college I majored in Music because I loved it. I added a Major in Business because my dad told me I needed to be able to get a job when I graduated.
  3. I have over 25 years of experience working with high school and college students.
  4. I love to travel. I’ve been to 44 of the states and 23 countries.
  5. Reading is my favorite pastime, but I can’t read just one book at a time…typically I’m reading 3 or 4 from different genres.
  6. My wife has been a telecommuter for over 20 years.
  7. My wife and I both graduated college debt free. It was awhile ago but still proud of that.
  8. I love to learn! I have my bachelors degree, masters degree, and taken post graduate work in university enrollment and retention strategies.
  9. Part of my learning fun is that I’m also a certified life coach and certified Enneagram coach.
  10. A hobby I would enjoy developing (but have not…yet) is photography.

As an added bonus, here are a few of my favorite things!

And this is my family hanging at one of our many “happy places” Siesta Key, FL.
